The Caligraph 2 is a typewriter produced by theAmerican Writing Machine Company from 1882, two years after the Caligraph 1.

It is the first machine to have a dual keyboard; a keyboard with black keys for uppercase letters and a keyboard with white keys for lowercase letters. No need for an "uppercase/lowercase" key.

In 1893, facing increasingly active competition, the typewriter manufacturer Remington Standard sees its leadership position eroded. He decides to join forces with several other manufacturers. The American Writing Machine Company, the Smith Premier Typewriter Company, the Yost Writing Machine Company, And Densmore and Brooks merge under the name ofUnion Writing Machine Company, which in 1908 took the name ofUnion Typewriter Company.
